Good snow and even better guests.

Spring has arrived and the weather is fantastic. We have had fresh snow on and off over the last week and now we have the bright blue skies to really enjoy it..

I must make a delayed thank you to the lovely ladies who made up Jill’s group. Day one skiing and a couple of them mentioned that they hoped to ski Tortin during their weeks stay............so with no further delay it was straight to the top of the Col de Gentianes followed by Tortin. Then a well deserved lunch and a glass of wine - as I said, perfect guests.

Thank you for your excellent company ladies, it was a pleasure to ski with you.

Today saw the running of the Xtreme - as amazing as ever.

Look here for the results, photos, videos and more.
http://www.freerideworldtour.com/

In fact we were able to get onto the first lift up and it is no exaggeration to say that we were the first two members of the public to ski down.

40cm of fresh snow
IMMENSE !!! check out the second video and the photo of Katie.

Then it was off to Col Le Mouche via Tortin, bottom video.

A quick drink at the bottom and then off to do the Col de Gentianes, in more powder. Finally followed by a great run down a still untracked Fontenay.

Two sets of tired legs later it was off to Geneva Airport - Katie wasn’t even late for the flight.

Then after lunch we popped over to Savoleyres and had great skiiing through the trees on empty slopes.

Who says that half term is too busy.............

I couldn’t wait to get back to Verbier.

Once back here it was straight up the mountain to enjoy the sun, snow and just being outdoors again.

Over the last few days I have been introducing the Snowlife team to the delights of ski touring.

Sunday saw us making the long traverse up to the Col Ferret on Mont Fort. This was their first time using skins and this was, as usual, the cause of much amusement.

As ever it was a Snowlife Chalet Girl who showed the boys up - well done Bea, looking lovely with poser Jack, in the bottom picture on the left.

As for driver Ben, well it’s probably best if we all try to forget his efforts. See the middle photo above to see him after he ‘fell’ off of the traverse......................suffice to say that the beers were on him.

The good news is, that after a bit of a snow famine, the weather is changing.

As I write this the sky is clouding over and a significant snowfall is forecast to start tonight, with more white stuff forecast for the weekend.

Full details in next weeks blog............

The last few weeks have seen unbroken high pressure, meaning cold temperatures and blue-bird skies every day.

I can’t remember the last time we had such a long unbroken run of sun in January - maybe 1999? That was followed by the biggest snowfall in 100 years - fingers crossed.........

The snow is bearing up very well and the pistes are in excellent condition and are being topped up every night with snow canon.

In fact amazingly there is still untracked powder around - we had a great descent on the back of Greppon Blanc on Wednesday.

Above Isabelle, Abigail, Katie & Richard pose with one of Verbier’s famous St Bernard dogs and Sarah and Ian looking as good as ever on their way to Rum & Hot Choc at the Cabin de Mont Fort.
